Q. What is Paintless Dent Removal?

A. Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), also known as "Paintless Dent Removal", describes a method of removing minor dents from the body of a motor vehicle.[1] A wide range of damage can be repaired using PDR as long as the paint surface is intact. PDR may be used on both aluminium and steel panels.

The most common practical use for PDR is the repair of hail damage, door dings, minor creases, large dents and bodylines damage.

The method can also be utilized to prepare a damaged panel for repainting by minimizing the use of body filler. This technique is currently known as "push to paint" or "push for paint". This can save insurance companies[2] and consumers thousands of dollars.

Q. What are common techniques?

A. The most common PDR techniques utilize metal rods and body picks to push out the dents from the underside of the body panel. Glue and specially designed tabs may be used to pull out the dents from the outside of the panel. Fine tuning the repair often involves tapping down the repair to remove small high spots. Quality technicians can blend high spots to match the texture of the paint called orange peel. Pushing too hard can create high spots that cause the clear coat to split or crack. Experienced technicians can avoid cracking or chipping with the use of heat, although a re-painted surface most likely will crack. When damage is so great that body filler is necessary, a PDR technician may "push to paint", resolving most of the damage before minor filling, sanding, and painting, thereby saving time and cost.

The process of Paintless Dent Repair requires a technician to manipulate precise locations of metal to the correct height, which can only be observed by the use of a PDR reading instrument such as a paintless dent repair light. Fluorescent or LED lighting, or in some cases a reflection board, may be used to visualize the deformation of the dent and to aid the technician in locating the tip of the tool being used to push the metal. Without a reflection from a light source or board to read the dent, the fine detail of the process may not be suitable to the technician.

Q. Does my Insurance company cover PDR?

A. Yes, most all insurance companies cover this repair due to the savings on both time and money for all parties concerned.  Deductibles can vary and we will be glad to help you thought this process.

Q. What are the benefits of Paintless Dent Removal?

A. The most important benefit is quality. This method is the closest you can get to the dent never happening in the first place. No grinding, bondo, fillers, or primers are needed because your original factory paint is not disturbed. There are no problems with filler or paint shrinkage months after the repair as is typical with most conventional repairs. Cost is also a major benefit of Paintless Dent Repair. A typical estimate for a minor dent from a body shop usually ranges between $350 - $500 or higher. That same dent can usually be repaired for $75 - $150 using Paintless Dent Repair. Time savings is yet another advantage. That same dent can often be fixed in less than an hour. A body shop will take 3 - 5 days, or longer.

Q. Can any dent be fixed?

A. No. The most important factors in determining if a dent can be repaired by Paintless Dent Repair are depth and location. Dents the size of a dinner plate or larger can be fixed successfully, as long as they are not too deep, or twisted. On the other hand, some dents that are as small as a dime, but very deep, cannot be fixed using Paintless Dent Repair because the metal is too stretched. Cracked paint can also be an indication that a dent is too deep. The most common dents fixed are the size of a golf ball and under. About 95% of minor dents can be repaired, leaving about 5% of minor dents that can't be fixed due to depth or location. Areas such as some quarter panel opening lips, some forward areas of heavily braced hoods, or the very edges of some panels are examples of bad locations.

They also know what they spend on Paintless Dent Repair will increase the price of the car, and will help them sell the car more quickly.
